It definitely makes a huge difference in specific games like vagrant story, the final fantasies and breath of fire 3/4. That makes sense, you guys have a huge feature load and I appreciate your honesty.Īs to the fidelity of PSOne games deserving/not deserving higher resolutions and/or texture filtering, I respectfully disagree. I have considered rendering at 2x resolution on both axes, as an option that might look ok, but it's not a high-priority feature TODO. ![]() Higher-resolution rendering makes sense for things like the N64 and PS2, but not for the PS1 IMHO. MEDNAFEN PSX RETROARCH SOFTWAREMednafen's GPU emulation is done in software on the computer's CPU rendering it at an artificially higher resolution would require making the code more complex, vastly increase CPU usage(to the point of unusable slowness probably), and make the other deficiencies(no texture perspective correction, no z-buffering, extremely low-polygon models, seams due to low-precision fixed-point math) of the PS1 that much more obvious and jarring. Re: PSX Non-native resolutions and texture filtering? MEDNAFEN PSX RETROARCH FULLImagine how gorgeous a mednafen PSX game would be with high res graphics and full screen sabr effect. Original, Sabr, and hi res, in that order. Was wondering if it's feasible to do this in mednafen and, if not, _why_ not. MEDNAFEN PSX RETROARCH WINDOWSBut the emulator that can do it A) Is windows only and B) has terrible compatibility with all kinds of plug-in fiddling. PSX Non-native resolutions and texture filtering? ĮDIT : I'm thinking my original version of this was a TL DR kind of post. Sure, if you want fidelity then everyone's going to recommend Mednafen or XEBRA over ePSXe in a heartbeat, but if you want significant graphical improvements then ePSXe is front and center.Home » Mednafen » Development » PSX Non-native resolutions and texture filtering? Show: Today's Messages :: Show Polls :: Message Navigator Same thing will happen to ePSXe, but it's not quite there yet. Remember how much popularity ZSNES retained even though much better SNES emulators kept on appearing left and right? Nowadays ZSNES is a relic that no one recommends anymore. Its popularity within the community is already shrinking though as time goes on, so i know that it'll soon come to an end. Though it's our responsibility to stay informed, ePSXe is the first thing that pops in my head wen i think of PSX emulation (with graphical improvements), and i know that despite being an old piece of software, it works and is a good entry point. I had no idea that the Beetle core in Retroarch is capable of such feats, which is remarkable and can't be understated how absolutely awesome those feats are. In 2020 i know that the plugins that it uses are older than dirt.Īnother reason is a lack of information. ![]() Your reason is valid, as i am also part of that group of individuals Ex., i haven't properly invested time in PSX emulation is years, but wen i was heavy into it i was ePSXe all the way. Do I really need to go on ebay, hunt down all those carts, and then play them on a real game gear? I'm too old for this shit srsly. In the case of Game Gear, I actually still have the system but the games were stolen about 15 years ago. The funny thing is that over the years I've had most of these systems and games. I also put a Game Gear emulator on my Genesis Mini. Personally I loaded my SNES classic up with a bunch of missing games like Turtles in Time. But at the same time some of us are adults now and don't want 250 SNES carts in our house. It would be messed up to emulate the new Paper Mario already. MEDNAFEN PSX RETROARCH PCI'm not sure why it's okay for the SNES classic to be a fine option for playing the game but if you do the same thing on PC it's a glitchy mess that will never be the same and look all wrong? MEDNAFEN PSX RETROARCH PS4In the interest of retro game preservation, I will seal my copy of SotN in a time capsule and buy the PS4 version for twenty bucks.īTW the retro consoles also emulate. I considered trying to emulate PSX (never done it), but then I read this thread and realized that would make me a dirty scoundrel. I was digging through old stuff and found my oooold PSX games like Symphony of the Night and Gundam Battle Assault, but have no way to play them anymore. ![]()
